The RTD-200 Surface Roughness Gauge by Starr Instruments is designed for users that have a wide range of surface finish testing requirements.

The RTD-200 is a contact type surface roughness meter which uses a skidded, diamond-tip stylus (detector) that traces across the test surface. The test force is a very to ensure maximum sensitivity and measurement accuracy, whilst also causing minimal marring to the surface.

It features multiple, advanced test parameters and adjustable cut-off length and filter setting options for thorough testing to common industry standards.

Users can also store up to 100 test results including wave form graphs and conversion value to other parameters.  These can be reviewed or downloaded for interpretation using the included DataView software program (available as a free download).

Commonly utilized to test in a work shop or laboratory, the RTD-200 profilometer is used to determine the roughness profile of surface finishes, both raw and machined.  It is important to measure quality and manage manufacturing processes for consistency and fit for purpose.  If a surface is too rough it can wear out more quickly as it has a higher co-efficient of friction.  To make a surface smoother can be much more expensive and time consuming, so a balance between wear and production costs can be achieved by analysing the data from surface roughness tests.

The Starr RTD-200 is also suitable for curved surfaces by having a protruding stylus, and the bright OLED dot matrix screen is easy to read in daylight or low light. The software is used for management of data including graphing of results.

Communication is possible by the following methods:

Mobile APP for phone (Android only)
Data view software for communication with PC or laptop
Bluetooth connection with mini printer
Export data to excel by SPC (*optional)
Can be controlled by PLC (*optional)
