Pocket Soil Penetrometer: PP-200

PP-200 is a  Pocket Penetrometer that is designed for users that have a broader range of soils to be tested to provide the classification of coherent and incoherent soils.

Generally used in land care and farming along with construction sites, the PP-200 comes with 5 different plunger tips to classify diverse types of soils.  

To perform a test, push the penetrometer tip gently into the soil to the line indication and take the reading.  

The conversion of using a different tip is worked out by a table referencing the test reading and the tip type.  The results will either be the cohesion or unconfined compressive strength of clay soils for the smaller plungers angle or the angle of internal friction for sandy soils and the larger plungers.  Best practice in testing is to take the average over 10 results.
